Stone Canyon

The Stone Canyon golf course springs like an oasis from a barren landscape full of tumbled boulders, Saguaro cactus, and rugged mountains.

To create a clubhouse worthy of this dramatic course, MAI will fuse the best elements of Spanish and Tuscan architecture to provide a sanctuary from the heat and sun typical of a desert environment.  MAI will use a palette of heat-resistant, earth-tone materials including stone, stucco, and clay roof tiles.  Soft beige Cantera stone will be used around windows and column bases to round out the palette of natural materials.

A dramatic, covered entry lanai will define and identify the clubhouse’s main access point, and set up what’s to come with a variety of indoor/outdoor living and dining spaces centralized around two interior courtyards.  Windows situated high in the space will flood the area with daylight, but still provide a cool retreat from the desert climate.

Further inside, plastered walls offset by dark timbers will create a comfortable yet cool and refined ambiance.  The Stone Canyon clubhouse also will feature lushly landscaped courtyards integrated into the adjacent hillsides, with hot tubs strategically positioned in existing boulder formations.

Dining venues will be strategically located and designed to provide both views of the Tucson city lights framed by the Catalina Mountains.  More intimate dining areas also will be integrated into existing boulder formations and hillsides.
